Tina Scruggs-Tate Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors
Having completed my Baccalaureate degree in Human Services from California State University in 2013, developing adult residential homes for Developmentally Disabled appeared to be a natural purpose and calling of my life.
Licensed by the state of California and endorsed by multiple local Regional Centers for residential out of home care since 2014, I have cared for children and adult of all ages from 0-65 with a myriad of physical, cognitive, mental, and emotional challenges ranging from Down-Syndrome to severe bipolar and mental health diagnosis.
It was during this tenure of community service that my husband John Tate and I, birthed the Family Hands Foundation, Inc. in 2019. Our experiences taught us that there is so much more work to be done in the community to heal our Families. I am proud to be a part of such a selfless organization, reclaiming our communities one family at a time.
What I have learned throughout my tenure in this community whether I’m dealing with an intellectually disabled individual or an individual trying to regain control of their life, they most often respond favorably to acts of love and kindness regardless of their cognitive level of functioning or feelings of disparity.

I later co-founded Family Hands Adult Residential Care in 2013 along with my wife Tina Scruggs-Tate.

Overseeing the day to day operations of the facility, I interface with the families, Psychiatrists, medical professionals, and local regional centers to support activities of daily living and care for our residents. I also take great pride in providing direct professional support care to our residents. Hurticine ChukwudireProof of Service Agent
My name is Hurticine Chukwudire (Hurtie) born in the south, I migrated to California 44 years ago. I have 3 adult children and 7 grandchildren. I have an extensive background in administration and leadership. I retired from Long Beach Community College District after working there for over 25 years as an Administrative Assistant. While employed at the college I was able to serve as President of American Federation of Teachers (AFT), Local 6108 which is the exclusive bargaining representative for almost 400 employees. Additionally, I also served as secretary, grievance representative, and executive board member for the union and loved serving the employees.
I am currently pursuing a certificate in paralegal studies at Cerritos Community College which may catapult me to a different career path altogether. I am very interested in becoming an attorney so that I can advocate for social justice and changes in our communities. If, we do not reach back, and give a helping hand to those who are the most vulnerable among us then we have missed our calling. I am honored to serve with my colleagues on the board of this Foundation.
